Please welcome the New Math and Business Teacher for 25-26 at THS Hi, I’m Cole Johnson. I grew up farming and ranching in Klamath and Modoc county. Growing up, I remember all the kids from Tule being kind and respectful. I look forward to learning from the staff who helped shape those behaviors. I like doing all the numbers stuff, such as crop projections and cash flow sheets for others, and running my own farming operation. I’m also a big fan of the stock market, the global economy, and basketball. I’ll gladly tell you everything I know. I’m really looking forward to teaching math to the middle school students, teaching the practicality of math to the high schoolers with the financial literacy class, and getting students prepared for college and the real world with the AVID program. It seems that Tulelake has a great staff and I want to learn as much as I can from them so I can be the best I can for students.

My name is Danika Flores, and I’m excited to join the Tulelake community and make a meaningful impact on my students. I graduated from California State University, Chico, with a degree in Agricultural Business and Agricultural Education. I recently completed my student teaching at Willows High School and am looking forward to experiencing the close-knit environment and strong sense of community at Tulelake. I’m originally from Nipomo, California, and was deeply involved in FFA throughout high school. I was a member of the state-winning Milk Quality and Dairy Products team and later placed third in the nation. In addition to my experience in Milk Quality and Dairy Products, I also have a background in Livestock Judging, Horse Judging, and various speaking contests. I'm passionate about agricultural education and eager to grow alongside my students while learning more about them and the programs offered here.

I am Jannette Garcia, but go by Jenny and Mrs. Garcia in class. I am excited about the opportunity to join the staff at Tulelake Basin Elementary School, particularly in supporting ELD students. I have been teaching at Butte Valley for four years. Change can be hard, but exciting at the same time. This change is not taken lightly, as I grow in my own career I want to be able to take in as much as I can in my early years of teaching. I want to learn from as many great teachers and leaders as I can and to be the best teacher I can be. I know that joining the Tulelake community (which I have heard great things about) is the right move for me. I am ready to continue my teaching and dedication to our youth and prepare them for their future classes. I am eager to be part of the meaningful work happening at Tulelake Basin Elementary and to make a positive impact in the lives of students and their families.

Honoring one of our own. Ms. McKoen received the honor of Athletic Director of the year for the Northern Section California Interscholastic Federation. Congratulations Ms. McKoen. Award presented by Scott Johnson, NSCIF Section Commissioner. Here's Ms. McKoen's biography: Tricia McKoen is a dedicated Health and Physical Education teacher with 25 years of experience at Tulelake High School. She has also coached volleyball, basketball, and softball and served as the school’s Athletic Director for 5 years. Tricia holds a Master’s in Sports Administration and has been a strong leader in the sports community, serving as the California Conference Chairman and the NSADA Female Representative on the CIF Executive Committee. Under her leadership, Tulelake High School added three new sports programs. Outside of her professional accomplishments, Tricia is most proud of her two children, aged 19 and 23, whom she considers her greatest achievements. She enjoys raising miniature donkeys, spending time at the lake, and watching sports. Tricia’s favorite quote is, “Play a sport. It will teach you how to win honorably, lose gracefully, respect authority, work with others, manage your time, and stay out of trouble.”

The California FFA 2025 State Leadership Conference is an annual event that brings together FFA members from across the state to enhance their leadership skills, engage in networking opportunities, and participate in workshops and competitions. The conference featured keynote speakers, interactive sessions, and activities designed to foster personal growth and develop agricultural knowledge. This event aims to inspire students to become future leaders in agriculture and their communities while promoting the FFA mission of personal, academic, and career success. Thank you Mr. Schaad and Mrs. Declusion for allowing our students to participate in such an enriching experience!

A special thank you to the local sponsors who supported the playground project at TES nearly 30 years ago. Your contributions allowed our community's students to enjoy recess with the play structure for many years. It has served us well and is ready for an upgrade. We are pleased to announce that our school board has approved the purchase of a new playground. It is planned for installation in June of this summer. We were able to use special funds from the state specifically for projects like this. We look forward to many years of enjoyment for our community. Thank you again to the contributors of the playground who came together 30 years ago for our students.
