6th graders at TBES aren’t just the oldest kids in the school-They are preparing for junior high by bonding and meeting in groups each week. The groups focus on respecting one’s self, respecting others, and learning how to navigate through the various social interactions that everyone encounters in life. Gena Long helped TBES pilot the girls’ group last year. She is an Educational Specialist who works for the Modoc Criss Center/T.E.A.C.H and she returned this year. Last year Bill Engel launched the boys’ group. This year Mr. Mendoza took over the boys’ group. Mr. Mendoza is a PE teacher at TBES and THS and has a sixth grade daughter in the program at TBES.

We are fortunate to have two full-time team members provided by Modoc County Office of Education. Veronica Renfro is at TBES and Cecilia Morales is at THS. Their roles include: checking in with individual students at the start and end of the day, providing 1:1 support, small group supports, supporting social emotional learning for all students at TBES, conducting classroom check-ins, managing student data, seeking ways to build strong school climates, providing student affirmations, and simply providing a place for students when they need a break within their day. This partnership with MCOE provides essential elements of the district’s Multiple Tiered Systems of Support for students.

Dear TBJUSD Parents, I was recently notified by the Tulelake Police Department that the individual who threatened our students Wednesday afternoon was arrested this afternoon and has been detained. Thank you to our local law enforcement agencies for collaborating on this case to ensure the safety of our students, staff and communities and to our communities for sharing the information on social media to bring attention to this matter. December 4, 2023 Dear Community Member, Merry Christmas. It is that time of year again for our candy drive for the Santa Candy give-a-way on December 15th. Though there have been major changes to the Police Department and the Officers serving this community, we are striving to continue this worthwhile program. This program is operated entirely by your donations and whatever you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. We traditionally give away approximately 400 bags of candy to area children with a visit from Santa. When funds are available, in excess of the candy give-a-way, we have also contributed to needy children in the area which has also involved a visit from Santa. Once again this year the Peace Officers Association was unable to do our annual fireworks fundraiser for the 4th of July. Funds from that fundraiser were used to supplement donations that we would receive from gracious people such as yourself. Unfortunately, we do not have that to rely on this year. So now more than ever, your contributions are of imperative to continuation of the Santa Candy give-a-way. I have included a self-addressed stamped envelope for your convenience. We will also provide a receipt and certificate for your contribution. Thank you for your continued support of this program. Brant Mauk Tulelake Peace Officers Association
